The renowned Milanese pharmaceutical industrialist, Dr. Carlo Erba, commissioned architects Borsani and Savoldi in 1898 to build him a grand Villa in white marble, with a wide staircase descending towards the lake.
From Dr. Erba, the Villa passed on to one of his daughters, Carla, who married Count Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone. From this captivating couple to their children, the most renowned of whom was the great filmmaker Luchino Visconti.
In 1985 Villa Erba was acquired with its whole very broad level park by public bodies in the vicinity, who, from then on, use the surrounding possessions and the villa itself for high-level manifestations and exhibitions.
