Villa Belvedere

It is the most prestigious villa in the hamlet, one of the most important villas on the Lake Como, and a National Monument.
The eighteenth-century building is maintained by the Droulers family, especially by Dr. G. Marco, with the utmost attention.

This family have owned the villa for some decades.
The villa formerly belonged to the Honourable Avogadro family, who sold it to the Riccis in 1770. From this family, it was transferred to Mr Carlo Vertemate and, in 1804, to "donna" Maddalena Imbonati, Count Sannazzaro's widow. This educated and intelligent lady loved her villa a lot, and enlarged and furnished it with refined taste. Alessandro Manzoni and the Milanese poet Carlo Porta were entertained here as guests in 1818.

The park of this villa is really very nice and well cared for; the metal sunshade awnings at the windows, with light blue and white vertical stripes, are singular and original.
